American White Pelicans

I mentioned a couple of posts ago that there were several hundred of the American White Pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) out at O.  C. Fisher lake.  This morning while I was there several of them took flight.    After they flew around the lake a bit they landed back with the flock.  What a beautiful sight they are when flying.  The black on the underside of their wings make a great contrast with the white on the rest of their bodies.  The top photo is one I photographed this morning.  The other images, are a couple from some past outings.  Enjoy them, click on either image for enlargements.

Suzanne Johnson says that the birding at the water treatment ponds at Eldorado is a little slow.  Usually it is a mecca for water birds, but I guess they are taking a few more days stay up north.

Terry Jennings down at Llano reports that as far as he knows, the eagles haven’t yet arrived at their nest.  He’ll let me know and I will pass it on.

Happy Birding!
