The two dominant woodpeckers of this area around San Angelo, are the Golden-fronted Woodpecker (Melanerpes auriforns) and Ladder-backed Woodpecker (Picoides scalaris). Other woodpeckers are pretty much rarities here. However, the Flickers and Sapsuckers are around in pretty good numbers. But, today I just wanted to show some of my latest photos of the Ladder-backed.
I hope you enjoyed these photos. Click on any image to see an enlargement.

Beautiful series of LBWO’s, Bob, but no love for the females? 😉 I will be in town tomorrow–hopefully early if I can get my backside out of bed and on the road.
Hi Jim, Thanks for the comment. I won’t be able to go with you tomorrow. Doc says rest after the ER emergency on Friday. Next time………:-)
Sorry to hear that, Bob, but understand completely. Definitely next time.
Beautiful, Bob!
Thanks so much, Karen, I appreciate you. 🙂

Thanks, Xandi. I appreciate that you like them. 🙂
Beautiful textures, Bob. How great it would be to observe this little fellow. Beautiful photos, as always! 🙂
Thank you so much, Nandini. It is always great to watch birds like this. 🙂
Beautiful photos, thanks for stopping by and following my blog. We don’t have these in Minnesota, that I’m aware of. Almost all other woodpeckers, though. They are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. I appreciate it. 🙂
Cool pics, Bob. I do have trouble telling woodpeckers of various sorts and flickers apart. I took some pictures of a few type last winter; maybe I can find them and send you a few for ID-ing if you feel like having a look. 🙂
Heck, yeah, bring ’em on, Karen. I would love to have a look at them. I sometimes have trouble and it is fun to photos for ID. 🙂
Bob, I sure enjoyed thes photos, the only place I can see Ladder-backed Woodpeckers is the extreme southwest corner of Utah so I haven’t seen one since I lived in Arizona and that was before I had a digital camera. Thanks for sharing these wonderful images.
Well, thank you very much. I am so glad that you like them and enjoyed them so much. Thank you, Mia. 🙂

Thank you very much, Syl. I really appreciate your complimens again. 🙂
Lovely pics! Are they all males, or do the male & female look alike? And what’s an NFL weekend? 🙂
They are all males, Jo. The females lack the red crown. About the NFL. The National Football League playoffs are this weekend. Four games. 🙂
Thanks for that, Bob. Ooh, football! No wonder I didn’t know. And four games to watch in one weekend!? 🙂
I’m sorry about my weird sense of humor, Jo. 🙂 I forgot that not everyone knows about our football playoffs.
Very nice photos Bob! 🙂
Thanks, H.J.
