Sounds like the beginning of a 60s rock’n’roll song. Anyway, I found a few more images of the Ladder-backed Woodpecker when I was perusing my archives. These are all male of the species. I don’t know if you have seen them previously. I do know that a couple of them had never been published before. Click on any image to see an enlargement.
That last one…such a poser!
Thanks, Shannon, I appreciate it.
Great shots with the poses and light, Bob. The only ladder back woodpecker that I have heard of here is the three-toed woodpecker, which has either a black back or a ladder back, and this is coveted by many birders. It’s crest, in the male is yellow.
Thanks for your great comment, Jane.
Super photos Bob!
Thanks so much, David.
Thanks Bob, The full profile is a classic !!
Thanks, Anonymous, I appreciate it.
Lovely shots of a gorgeous bird! I guess if you were going to put a rock’n’roll band together that woodpecker could be the drummer (sorry, Bob, I had to get you back sometime!) 😀
Thanks you very much, Jo. You are right about that drummer woodpecker. Rat-a-tat-tat. 🙂
I think my weird sense of humor is contagious. Love it!
Wonderful photos each and every one Bob. 🙂
Thank you very much, Alison, for those nice words. I appreciate it.
Gorgeous shots, Bob. I really like the one in the branches. Just gorgeous.
Thanks, Judy. That one is one of my favorites, too.
The photos are fabulous..these birds are so colorful and you might say photogenic. I love the first photo where he is hidden slightly by the twigs of the tree..Kudos..Hope you had a Great Thanksgiving..lots of turkey and football..!!!
Thanks, Syl. I love to get shots when the bird is partially hidden. Looks more natural sometimes. We had a nice Thanksgiving with friends. 🙂
He is amazing! Great photo. Hugs, Barbara
